Latin
- It teaches critical thinking. Our children must work through language, deciding what to do, when to do it, tinkering with the endings, the meanings, the genders—all of it is critical thinking. Latin is a highly structured language, requiring precision and logic to master. This discipline sharpens analytical skills and attention to detail, which are invaluable in industries like law, science, and technology.
- It teaches grammar without it being overbearing. Grammar is inherent to learning Latin through discussions about nominative cases, singular and plural nouns, verb and subject agreement and the genders of words
- Latin is the root of many modern languages, including Spanish, French, and Italian. Learning Latin can significantly improve vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension in these languages as well as in English, where over 50% of words have Latin origins.
- Studying Latin opens the door to the rich histories of ancient Rome and Greece. Students gain a deeper appreciation for classical literature, philosophy, and art, and how these have shaped Western civilisation.
