SEND

We recognise that each of our pupils is unique and that some may have special educational needs; in light of this, we aim to offer excellence in adaptive teaching to meet their needs.

We have high expectations of all our children and strive to put these into practice through the removal of barriers to learning and participation.

We want all our children to feel that they are a valued part of our school community. Through appropriate curricular provision, we respect the fact that children:

1

Require different strategies for learning;

2

Acquire, assimilate and communicate information at different rates;

3

Need a range of different teaching approaches and experiences

How do we support SEND students?

We use the adaptive teaching practices, proven evidence-based research and the Bexley Toolkit to provide a consistent approach to ensure that:

  • High quality teaching is used and adapted for individual pupils, in responding to pupils who have or may not have SEND.
  • All school members are routinely providing support and guidance as set out in the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
  • Pupils’ barriers to learning are identified early, quickly and correct support or intervention is provided.
  • We monitor the impact and effectiveness of support and interventions through the graduated approach.
  • Parents will know what support they can reasonably expect to be provided.
  • Children and young people, their parents or carers, are fully involved in decisions about their support and what they want to achieve.
  • Support given is in line with the pupil’s needs and not dependent on diagnosis.
